Yachting Australia

Yachting Australia is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).  This allows Yachting Australia to deliver training, conduct assessments and issue nationally recognised certification for approved 'units of competence'. 

Yachting Australia is currently able to deliver training, conduct assessments and issue statements of attainment for some units within the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) qualification. Yachting Australia has the following units within its scope:

• TAEDEL301A- Provide work skill instruction
• TAEASS401B - Plan assessment activities and processes
• TAEASS402B - Assess competence
• TAEASS403B- Participate in assessment validation

The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) has 7 core units and 3 elective units, thus Yachting Australia is able to issue a partial qualification.  This is known as a Statement of Attainment. These four units collectively form the cluster known as Enterprise Trainer and Assessor Skill Set. 

Two pathways currently exist for anyone wanting to obtain this skill set. These are:

- Recognition of Prior Learning

- Attending two courses relating to the training and assessment of Yachting Australia Instructors.

Currently, several maritime authorities recognise Yachting Australia certificates eg Powerboat Handling Certificate as meeting the requirements for a recreational powerboat licence. However, increasingly around Australia, State Maritime Authorities are requiring that assessment outcomes for licencing purposes (eg powerboat licencing), are conducted by RTOs. In order for Yachting Australia Training Centres and their recognised Instructors to continue to be able to deliver training and conduct assessments that can be used by students to gain their powerboat licence there was a need to meet the requirements set by those external bodies (eg the state maritime authorities).

In summary, if you wish to deliver training and conduct assessments where an external body (eg state maritime authority) requires training to be conducted by an RTO you will need to achieve the four units of competence in the Yachting Australia RTO scope of registration. If you wish to deliver any other training from the National Training Program you are not required to achieve these units of competence however you can if you want to.
